Children and youth’s participation at home, school and community: differences between socioeconomic status

Background: Environmental factors such as family socioeconomic status (SES) can influence the participation of children and youth in different contexts. Objective: Investigate effect SES on Brazilian adolescents home, school community activities. Methods: Parents/caregivers 198 Brazilians aged 6-17 years from answered Participation Environment Measure for Children Youth Criteria Economic Classification. Unpaired Student t test or Mann-Whitney tests were used to compare two independent groups: middle-high/high (MHH) middle-low/low (MLL). Results: The MLL presented greater involvement all School provided equality both groups. On other hand, reduced by groups was observed community. Conclusion: Despite financial disadvantage limiting/preventing access types resources lower-SES families. contrary, it seems have positive effects group.
